   Of the many things I enjoy researching, time travel is one. The topic is so vast that I could not possibly include every single detail, but I will give some online reference sites for further reading. I am also going to break the article into subtopics as to avoid confusion. Sound fun? Here we go!

WHAT IS PROJECT RAINBOW?

   In July of 1943, the government tried to make the destroyer USS Eldridge invisible, but exactly how invisible?

OFFICIAL NAVY RECORD

   The navy has no qualms with admitting that the experiment took place. Wire was wrapped around the hull of the ship in order to cancel out magnetic metal fields. This process is known as "degaussing".

   It was designed as a tactic to make the ship invisible to underwater magnetic mines that require proximity sensors for detonation.

THE SCIENTIFIC THEORY

   Scientists believe the goal of the experiment was physical invisibility using high frequency heat generators. This is a very natural occurrence- under the right weather conditions, little islands can seem to disappear to oncoming ships. The heat causes a mirage.

PHYSICS OF SPACE-TIME THEORY

   It is believed that in order to be rendered invisible, the ship would have had to be wrapped in wire with a measured current running through it. This would create such a strong magnetic field that would be powerful enough to bend light. Due to Einstein's (who incidentally was rumoured to be part of the experiment) Unified Field Theory, this would unwittingly bend space and time as well.

CLIFF NOTES ON UNIFIED FIELD THEORY

   The Unified Field Theory (aka The Theory of Everything) is the tying together of all known phenomena in order to explain all known matter and energy.

   It could tie two seemingly unrelated fields such as gravity and electricity into a set of comprehensive equations. If solved, all of nature's secrets would be unlocked. It is the Holy Grail of Physics.

   It is also rumoured that Einstein solved the theory before his death.

THE MISSING FOUR HOURS AND AFTER-SHOCK

   During the four hours that the Eldridge disappeared, many witnesses have placed it in two completely different areas. It was spotted in the Norfolk Harbour a mere 15 minutes after the experiment began. It was also placed by witnesses some 40 years later in Montauk, NY.

   By the end of the experiment, some sailors were on fire, some insane, some dead, some welded to ship's structure and others disappeared completely!

   Many of the sailors raided a bar in some kind of sudden burst of madness to tell their story to all who would listen, according to numerous eye-witnesses. One man sat down for a bite to eat, got up and walked though a wall and was never seen again. Two sailors disappeared into thin air and one disappeared during a bar brawl. There were numerous witnesses.

MONTAUK, NEW YORK

   Montauk is infamous for an experiment all its own. It is believed to be a continuation of Project Rainbow and is supposed to be orchestrated by the surviving original researchers.

   The Montauk Experiment has attempted to link computers with minds and was thus able to open a time vortex to 1943. They also claim to have sent a man named Preston B Nichols through two time lines. This has been confirmed by Duncan Cameron, a man trained by the National Security Agency.

   The conspiracies, rumours (fact or fiction) are so vast, that it is impossible to include them in this article. Perhaps I should write a follow-up. A simple google search will direct you to more information than your brain could handle!

JOHN TITOR AND ANDREW CARLSSIN

   On November 2, 2000, a mysterious poster showed up on various message boards on the net. His user handle was TimeTravel_0 but later identified himself as John Titor. He claimed to be from the year 2036 and could only be with us for four months. During that time span, he posted pictures of his time machine and answered all questions with precision. He clearly had nothing to prove. He told of the impending war of 2015 and how it will change humankind.

   True to his word, he was never heard from again some four months later. All of his conversations are neatly compiled at johntitor.com.

   The existence of Andrew Carlssin has caused world-wide mixed reactions. Some claim it to be a hoax while others claim it is a real story that the government is trying to cover-up, calling it an April Fool's Joke.

   Supposedly, Carlssin overturned a mere 800 dollars into multi millions in a short amount of time by playing the stock market. In order to perform such a feat, Carlssin would have had to be dead-on with every tick and pulse of Wall Street. When he was busted for insider trading, he told the feds that he was from the future. For leniency, he offered insight into the future. He was anonymously bailed out and never seen again.

   Both of these stories are up for debate. Even I am not convinced of the legitimacy. I encourage you to do some net research and draw your own conclusions!

KIP THORNE AND THE WORMHOLES THEORY

   Kip Thorne says that space is merely the rumpled fabric of the universe. It contorts itself as objects move through it. When faced with black holes, space can fold in on itself.

   The legendary astrophysicist also super headed the construction of LIGO, located in both Louisiana and Washington State. This observatory "detects passing gravitational waves by measuring miniscule expansions and contractions in space and time."

   It is quite possible for time travel to occur though "wormholes", aka Einstein-Rosen Bridges. Wormholes are warps of space that can serve as a shortcut between two different universal regions. It was discovered that they can be held open by an exotic form of matter called Casimir Energy (a quantum vacuum that has an anti-gravitational effect).

HOLLY B'S TAKE

   I believe that the government has their grubby hands over everything we see and hear though all forms of media. As I am growing older, I am realizing exactly how much misinformation is spoon-fed to us on a daily basis. I am not saying that conspiracy theorists are right all of the time either, I just think that with an open mind and open ears, drawing our own conclusions are just as valid as anything "Officials" confirm or deny.
