When people hear about Richard Harris
, they automatically think of Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter movies. Some people remember him as Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator. Some of the older crowd may even remember some of his other dozens of movies such as Camelot, The Field and Mutiny on the Bounty. What most people don't realize is that Richard Harris spent years living in his mansion with the ghost of an 8-year-old boy.
In the early years of his carreer, Richard Harris was the average Irish-born partying Playboy type of actor. This could explain how, before joining showbiz, he unexpectedly woke up one morning in the garden of a beautiful mansion. He knew then that one day that mansion would be his. Years later, he did finally get his hands on the mansion.
During his Hollywood parties, Richard Harris' conversations would always return back to his English mansion and the ghost that lived in the tower. He would tell about the spirit and even had the ghost do tricks for some friends. Harris' only complaint about living in a haunted house was that he could never get enough sleep. Records showed that an 8-year-old boy had been buried in the tower of the mansion. The spirit would often wake Harris up at night by slamming doors and running up and down the stairs to the tower. Richard Harris tried explaining to the boy that an actor needs his sleep and that if he didn't stop making all the late-night ruckus - Harris would have him exorcised! This didn't help much so he had a nursery done up in the top of the tower. It was filled with games and toys and it helped to settle the boy down a bit.
Supporting a Ghost
Richard Harris' love for his mansion was so great that he regretted having to travel for film production - it kept him away too long from his home. He once said, "I have to make buckets of money just to support my haunted house and its noisy little ghost."
This is a perfect example of how one can live in a haunted house and get along with the resident spirit. Richard Harris loved his mansion so much that he just may still be residing there since his death in 2002, playing in the nursery with the young boy, creating late-night ruckuses for the new tenants.
