Most people know of the four elements - earth, wind, fire and air, but do you know what they symbolise to Witchcraft? I'll try keeping this short and to the point without going into too much detail. I'm bad for that sometimes.

Air

   Air is the material existing between the physical and astral worlds. It represents the soul as we breath air to give us life. From our first breath at birth to our last exhale at death, air is an invisible life-blood for all of us. Air represents the east. Its processes are thinking, reading, speaking, praying and singing. It is represented by the colours blue, silver, white and gray. Its season is the spring and its zodiac signs are Aquarius, Gemini & Libra.

Fire

   Fire represents transformation. The sun generates power. Fire motivates us and when mixed with air gives us stamina. In order for fire to create, it must first destroy. It goes with the saying, "out with the old - in with the new." You must be able to contain fire in order to use it. Fire represents the south. Its processes are passion, anger, quick, active, energy & power. It is represented by the colours red, red-orange (like flames) & amber. Its season is the summer and its zodiac signs are Aries, Leo & Sagittarius.

Water

   Water is passive and receptive. Water is representative of the Great Mother's universal womb, birth and fertility. Water is life-giving and brings forth life, but when cooled - death results. Water in a baptism is used to signify a rebirth. It cleanses and purifies. Water represents the west. Its processes are love, nurturing, sensitivity, psychic ability and healing. It is represented by the colours green & turquoise. Its season is autumn and its zodiac signs are Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces.

Earth

   Earth is symbolic of both the womb and the grave. It brings forth life and buries it in the end. Earth is what allows the other 3 elements to take place. It gives them somewhere to manifest your desires. Earth represents the north. Its processes are responsibility, practical, organized, steady & grounded. It is represented by the colours yellow, brown, & russet. Its season is the winter and its zodiac signs are Capricorn, Taurus & Virgo.
   Once you learn to use the four elements in harmoney with each other and yourself, you'll be on your way to some better changes. Hope this gives you an idea about the four elements. I could get more in depth, but maybe I'll break each of the four elements down separately one day and go into more detail.
