As I mention often, I seem to come across things by accident which all seem to fit into a universal plan on some grand scale. This time it was during a book by the notable hypnotherapist Dr. Bruce Goldberg. I've read most of Dr. Goldberg's books and they deal mostly with new age beliefs such as astral projection and dream therapy. One of his earlier books (I believe it's his first) was a collection of past-life and future-life progressions entitled... ummm... Past Lives - Future Lives. Not all of Dr. Goldberg's hypnotherapy work deals with reincarnation but he published a few of the more interesting stories for our entertainment.
The account I'd like to tell you about here deals with a 34-year-old waitress he calls Nancy. He performed a number of past life regressions on her and they then decided to try a future life progression. Dr. Goldberg hypnotized Nancy and spoke with her character in a future life as Nancy's body lay quietly in a trance.
A New World Order?
Dr. Goldberg found himself talking with Nancy's future incarnation as a young woman named Marsha living in the 23rd century. Marsha worked with an organization called the Ministry of Peace in the Diplomatic Corps. When asked which country that was in she said it was part of the Western Federation of Nations. At one point, a sweating Marsha (Nancy's body was sweating) told of her assignment in Brazil. A weather experiment had accidentally produced a small earthquake and destroyed some small towns in the area. Marsha had been sent to see what the damage was and how the Western Federation could financially and politically remedy the situation.
Dr. Goldberg questioned Marsha about this Western Federation and which countries were included. The Federation includes all of North and South America, Western Europe, Africa & the Middle East. The peacefully opposing other side is known as the Eastern Alliance and consists of the rest of the world: Russia, China, India, Japan, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Australia & Eastern Europe. The only differences between the two sides were "philosophical" and there hadn't been a war in over 100 years. This puts the last of any future wars somewhere around the year 2110 - far beyond our years but maybe not for our next generation.
Living like the Jetsons?
When asked what her city was like Nancy described a city with moving sidewalks and solar discs. The sidewalks were like horizontal escalators and the solar discs were used for heating/cooling and energy. The streets were clean and marble-smooth and there was little noise pollution. No cars were allowed within city limits so all transportation was either by monorail or the subway - all which produced very little noise. Average life span was 110 years while retirement age had been moved to 85 (I don't like the sound of that...). Food was automatically prepared through something called an omni-regulator which sounds like a sort of microwave of the future. Videophones are commonplace and doors and windows open and shut at the command of your voice. Somehow, the future generations will also learn to deal with greed, prejudice, depression and other illnesses of the mind and body creating a civilization at harmony with one another.
The Big One?
Marsha was progressed to a point in her life during the year 2221 and this is the part that stuck in my head when I read the book years ago. Dr. Goldberg had spent about an hour and a half getting information when he decided to question Marsha on New York. The dialogue is as follows:
Dr. Goldberg: Do you ever go to the theater?
Nancy/Marsha: Yes, but not very often.
Dr. G.: What plays are currently running in New York?
Nancy: New York? I don't understand. Where is New York?
Dr. G.: Isn't there a city called New York that is known for its theater?
Nancy: Oh, you must be referring to New City. There was such a place called New York, but that city was destroyed by the great earthquake over 150 years ago. The city was completely destroyed and it took many years to rebuild it. It was renamed New City. I haven't heard the name New York mentioned since I was in school many years ago studying history.
Dr. G.: Is New City still a theater center?
Nancy: Well, not really. After it was rebuilt, if I can remember my history, theater became more universal and no single city became the permanent seat or main contributor to this field. New City functioned just like any other city.
Dr. G.: Were there any other cities that were destroyed by the great earthquake?
Nancy: Yes, a number of smaller cities were also destroyed. San Francisco and Los Angeles were leveled just before New York collapsed. It seemed funny to me that both San Francisco and Los Angeles retained their names when they were rebuilt, but New York was renamed New City.
Conclusion
Since this took place in 2221, "over 150 years" would make this great earthquake sometime before the year 2070. Does this fit in with the general concensus of 2012? Of course we can make it fit but I'm leaving that open - she didn't say "over 200 years ago," although her history didn't seem that great. Something happens to California just before New York is levelled which could mean years before or only days before.
It's unfortunate Dr. Bruce Goldberg wasn't able to progress Nancy to a point in Marsha's life where she was reading that page in her history textbook. That would be a neat way of getting dates. Who knows, maybe he already has gotten dates from either Marsha or other patients of his. Guess we'll have to wait for a sequel.
