30 Year Crisis

As people begin to approach the age of 30, they are filled with many strange emotions - some bad, others good. This is known as the Saturn Return. Saturn takes roughly 29 years to once again enter the astrological sign it occupied at the time of your birth. This strange point in one's life happens around the ages of 28-30, 57-59, and 86-88 for those that live that long. These points in a person's life can have either drastic effects or a strengthening of what one has already achieved.

I originally heard something like this years ago while reading a Robert Monroe book on astral projection. He mentioned that a lot of people, himself included if I remember correctly, begin to experience sleep paralysis and astral projection in their late 20's. Lately I have asked a few people who email me about astral projection if they're in their late 20's. The majority have stated they are. This could just be coincidence but I still found it intriguing. Then I found myself reading Daniel Pinchbeck's 2012 - The Return of Quetzalcoatl and saw him relate a change in his life to the Saturn Return briefly in passing. This was the first time I've heard of the term so decided to look further into it.

Lord of Karma

   Www.astrology.com states:

Saturn is the lord of karma, restriction, sorrows, structure, old age and reaping what we have sown. Saturn also rules the past and matters that have come to an end.
Saturn is the Planet of Responsibility. This domineering foreman of the Zodiac has many lessons to teach us about hard work and discipline, and the goals set for us by this planet may be difficult to achieve. However, always keep in mind with Saturn that once a task has been completed, the rewards to be reaped are plentiful and satisfying.

Mid-Life Maturity

So as we begin to near the age of 30, we tend to become overly critical of ourselves. This becomes a period of self-doubt and major change. If we are unsure of something in our lives, we will force it out and begin fresh. If we are secure with ourselves in any way, our views will reinforce our security in that sense. In other words, a faulty relationship will end while a strong relationship will grow stronger. A poor career choice will be replaced by a job more suited to your character. A longing for parenthood may even develop even though this person had never wanted children before. These changes are often drastic and this age in astrology is sometimes considered to be the true adulthood, not 18 or 21 like some believe.

   Skye Alexander (www.skyealexander.com) says:

Growth is often accompanied by trepidation and turmoil. As the old self is pushed aside to make room for the new, you may feel weak and vulnerable. You want to move ahead, yet are frustrated by a fear of doing so, torn between a compelling urge to throw off everything connected with your past and an equally frantic need to cling to the familiar rather than brave the great unknown.

Even if your external world seems to be in order, your internal structure may feel as though it's being assaulted with a battering ram. Nervous conditions, irritability, depression, insomnia, and feelings of insecurity are common. Most people go through some sort of identity crisis.

Utter Chaos

In hind-sight, I can see this point in my life very well. I broke up with a long-term girlfriend of whom I had a decent relationship with, although, with its faults. I then hooked up with, became engaged to and had a disastrous 6-month-long marriage to a tyrant of a woman. Having singly raised a son on my own who was now becoming old and self-dependant I found myself changing diapers and starting over in parenthood once again, mind you, my second son was the only blessing to come of this even if it meant starting over. In my "professional" life, ten years spent moving up the ladder and making great money in the skilled trades was thrown away. I never liked it and only went into the trade because that's where the jobs were. During this time, I finally went through with my years-long plan of starting The Astral World which even today is still in the early stages. All this and I've found myself working as a supervisor in a production facility. This isn't permament but only a temporary release from the stress-filled workdays of before.

I've looked around at other friends who have gone through - or are going through - the same changes in their life. I have three close friends who have also spent the last 10 years in the same sort of automobile industry as I was. They're still in the industry but one friend is now competing in IronMan triathlon competitions, a second friend is in the beginning stages of his own woodworking business and the third is now enrolled in massage therapy classes. The feelings of change all came around the same time - during the ages that correlates with the Return of Saturn.

If you've already passed this age, look back and see if there were any major changes in your life. If you're at the age now, you're probably beginning to feel similarly. If you're nearing it, or even far from it, prepare for the worst because studies show that this is universal. It could be in the mind or perhaps Saturn really does play a role in our lives but studies have shown this is a very significant part in one's life.

Which Type are You?

Www.tellmylife.com lists a good explanation of the four general paths that can be taken. They are:

  1. Those in their 20's who have taken on a life structure very suitable for them. They will find themselves with greater power, promotions, additional work as they expand on the choices they have made. This, however, is only for a small portion of people during the Saturn Return.

  2. Those who have spent their 20's trying to find themselves. These people have tried different things out and have an idea what they want. They may find themselves married and will find themselves in a professional structure with stability that they tried and tested in their 20's. Their foundation will begin to settle at this time.

  3. Those who have searched like the last group but did not find themselves. Pressure kicks in as they feel the time passing by. Nothing seems to fall into place. They may have to go back and relearn everything.

  4. Those who found themselves in a life structure against everything they wish for. The old ways will feel confining, limiting, restrictive. Old patterns of behavior seem formalized and lifeless. This is a time where new jobs take place, relationships begin or end and a relocation often takes place. They will also make a firm commitment into something at this time and look for things that will give them a sense of accomplishment.
Some people may also do a mixture of all four since they may be comfortable in one way of life yet unfulfilled in another.

What's Going to Make You Happy?

The Saturn Return comes to everyone differently. As you reach this age, take a look on your life and see what needs to be changed - if anything. What kind of job do you want? What are you looking for in a partner? Find out what you need most and try to achieve those goals.

The 2nd and 3rd cycle of the Saturn Return will come later and sometimes prove to be just as troublesome. This could be the fact that the person knows 60 is considered very old and close to retirement just as anything over 85 is going to be your final years.

These points of crisis in your life may be the most crucial decision making moments you will ever experience. With time you will overcome the chaos that enters your life as Saturn enters your zodiacal birthmark. Just know that the years to follow will be blessed with stability and fulfillment.
