I put this here because I didn't know where else to put it. These are some more historical notes about religion. I think it would be bad to be atheist, no hollidays. Think about it, (this works in America not sure of you north of here) January: New Years Day- started by the Roman Chatolic Church, M.L.King Day- he was a Southern Baptist Minister and worked with the Southern Ministry to try and help the Black American, Febuary: Ground Hog Day- this is a pagan holliday called Imbolc (sorry don't know enough to elaberate on it), Mardi Gras- a Chatolic religious holliday, Valentine's Day-a pagan based holliday, President's day<see 4th of July>, March: St. Patricks Day- a Catholic Saint being celebrated, Spring Equinox-pagan celebration day, April: April Fool's Day- a pagan celebration day, Passover- a Jewish Holliday, Good Friday/Easter-sometimes in March also, both celebrate the reserection of Jesus, Earth Day- derived from the worship of Mother Earth, May: May Day/ Beltane- a pagan celebration day, Mother's Day- started by a woman who believed that good Christain mothers should be Honored, especially hers..., Shavuot- pagan celebration day, Memorial Day- Honoring those who died fighting for this country<see 4th of July>, June: Summer Solstice- pagan celebration day, July: Independance Day- celebrateing a country founded on freedom of religion. August: Lammas- pagan celebration day, September: Labor Day- Oaky this ones got me..., Rosh Hashanah- a Jewish celebration day, Ramadan- a Muslum celebration day, Yom Kippur-Jewish celebration day, Fall Equinox- pagan celebration day, October: Samhain/Halloween- pagan celebration day, November- Veterans Day-<see 4th of July>, Thanksgiving-created to give thanks to God for His blessings, December: Hanukah-Jewish holliday, Yule-pagan holliday, Christmas-Cristain holliday. So the major hollidays we have are Faith based in some form. Catholics in the begining of the Christain movement just substituted Pagan celebration days with Christain celebration days to convert people even to the point of making up religious days. Think about it... Christianity started as a cult so it's now the worlds most successful cult. Hope you found these humorious as I did.

Instead of Memorial Day we get Victoria day to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria (May 24th, 1819).
They've just given us "Family Day" to make up for not having a break from New Year's until Easter.

Do you get any of these hollidays off? Or celebrate like most of us do?

Family Day - only some so far since it's new and not in union contracts even though it's "mandatory"
Good Friday - yes
Easter Monday - not everybody
Victoria Day (last Monday of May instead of the old May 24) - yes
June 1 - Candian Independance
Aug. 1 roughly - Civic holiday not everyone gets
Labour Day - yes
Thanksgiving - yes but it's in October - maybe so we're not buried in snow for it
Christmas, Boxing Day & New Year's - yes
Other than these we work every other day.

Sounds like you need to get the gov. together and make more hollidays.LOL Or you can be odd like us, we have state and federal hollidays. Everybody gets federal hollidays off, then there are state hollidays were just that state does something, like Mardi Gras in the state of Louisanna they take a week off and here in Alabama only the two lowest counties take the time off. No other states do this. Then there are the northern states that get time off for snow. Here we don't have that problem. I'll be 40 next month and I've only seen snow seven times in my life.

I am supposed to be ready and willing to work every single day except for Christmas Day. The Grand Prix has royally screwed my Labour Day weekend... I booked it off months ago, made plans to go out of town and now I find out I am not allowed to have it off.
